2013 SMARTCAP GRANT AWARDED
The 2013 NSBRI Industry Forum
Space Medical And Related Technologies Commercialization Assistance Program (SMARTCAP) grant
has been awarded to California start-up Cerebrotech to accelerate clinical
trials of a non-invasive monitor to detect changes to levels of intracranial
fluid (ICF). In space, such technology couldbe
used to monitor astronauts’ brains to help NASA understand a new syndrome
manifesting with visual defects andelevated
intracranial pressure. On Earth, it can be used for early detection and ongoing
monitoring of brain edema and bleeding in cases such as stroke or brain trauma.
