Neurobehavioral and Psychosocial Factors

About the Research Positive Impact on our Earth

  • Software programs being developed for astronauts to mitigate interpersonal conflict, stress and depression are of value to people on Earth who also cope with these challenges. NSBRI software could be made available through the World Wide Web or via personal communication devices. This convenient and private behavioral intervention will be especially useful for those engaged in highly demanding and stressful professions.

  • On Earth, operational errors due to stress or fatigue have been shown to have dire consequences for airline and ship pilots, air-traffic controllers, nuclear facility workers, search and rescue personnel, and robotic-machinery operators. The development of diagnostic monitoring devices and evaluation criteria can aid in preventing life-threatening mistakes.
